Kuan Yin is an enlightened being; she is actually a Bodhisattva; a word that refers to later incarnations of the Buddha. She is also called the Goddess of Compassion, and the legend within the Lotus Scripture states that if you simply call upon Kuan Yin, you can be saved from any type of calamity. Kuan Yin – The Bodhisattva – Assists Father Time in Giving Psychic Readings via e-mail
Saturday, July 18th, 2009A Bodhisattva is an “enlightenment being” and also, according to legend, a later incarnation of the Buddha. “The Bodhisattva” is said to be Kuan Yin, and she is the female form of Avalokitesvara, who is the male form, praised and worshipped throughout many parts of Asia. He is the Great Protector, and his name avalokita-ishvara, means “lord who has seen and now sees.”
The Chinese form is Kuan-tzu-tsai, the “one who sees the world.” Another meaning is “she or he who hears.” Also, in Chinese, Kuan-yin means “she or he who hears the cries of the world.” These Chinese names are descriptive of a spiritual figure who hears and responds to the suffering of people by aiding them in their time of need.
The Bodhisattva Kuan Yin is a human figure who has had such intense dedication to helping others in a humanitarian and spiritual way, that she became the Greatest of the Protectors. The central figure in Tibetan Buddhism; The Dalai Lama, is said to be a living incarnation of Avalokitesvara, an expression of infinite compassion towards others. The Dalai Lama is said to have enormous insight into human suffering.
The Saddarmapundarika Sutra or Lotus Scripture, and the Sukhavativyuha Sutra or Pure Land Scripture both tell of The Bodhisattva’s powers to save lives and to deliver people from any type of calamity, if you simply call upon her assistance! The whole 25th chapter of the Lotus Scripture is devoted to her; and it states that her name is Avalokitesvara (same as above), as well as Kannon, and of course; Kuan Yin. The text describes that she can save a person from any type of trouble or calamity. She can also appear in any one of at least 33 different forms.
There have been numerous volumes of books written about Kuan Yin and all of the history, mythology, stories, and rituals concerning her and if you choose to believe, there are some seriously powerful benefits that can be derived from the Goddess of Compassion.
